What's New for the 2017 Dodge Charger?

With seven production cycles, and its reputation as a solid performance-oriented full-size sedan in place, the Dodge Charger enters into the 2017 model year with no major changes. The trims still remain the SE, SXT, R/T, R/T Road Track, R/T Scat Pack, SRT® 392, and SRT® Hellcat. A rear-wheel drivetrain (RWD) with a front engine placement is still standard on the vehicles for a more even weight distribution—and, consequently, better driving performance. However, for enhanced traction, you have the choice of an all-wheel drivetrain (AWD) on the SE and SXT. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which produces 305 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque, goes on the base-level SE and SXT trims. The R/T and R/T Road & Track go with the 5.7-liter HEMI V8, which produces 375 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The R/T Scat Pack and SRT® 392 have the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 with 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. And the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 with 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque is installed on the top-of-the-line SRT® Hellcat. Each engine is hitched to an 8-speed automatic AutoStick® transmission, so named because it offers the option to perform clutchless manual shifting. The best fuel economy on the Charger comes from the SE and SXT trims, which offer 19 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway with RWD.

As a five-seater, the 2017 Dodge Charger includes a 6-way power-adjustable seat, as well as a 60/40 rear seatback that can fold down to create more cargo space. Upper-level trims are more likely to have enhancements or additions like heating and cooling ability, power 4-way driver lumbar support, and leather seat covering. The SRT® Hellcat in particular has seats that combine suede alcantara material with nappa leather—complete with embedded SRT® emblems. For comfort and convenience, the Charger has dual-zone automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, steering wheel-mounted controls, a media hub that combines a flash memory card slot, USB port and audio jack, a 7-inch reconfigurable instrument cluster display, and a six-speaker audio system with a 5-inch touchscreen display. Upper-level models are more likely to have features like a power sunroof, universal garage door opener, HD Radio®, Uconnect Access® service for integrating certain vehicle functions, a one-year subscription to SiriusXM® Satellite Radio, GPS navigation with an 8.4-inch touchscreen display, auto dimming on the rearview mirror and the side mirror on the driver’s side, and up to 19 speakers or a 276-watt Harman Kardon® GreenEdge™ amplifier for the audio system. Standard safety features include electronic stability control, all-wheel traction control, hill start assist, speed control, and a security system that works together with the engine immobilizer.
