The Dodge Journey is a reliable and affordable crossover with an available third row. It is one of the most family-friendly vehicles on the market and has enjoyed high sales since its debut in 2009. The 2017 Dodge Journey is offered in five models: the base SE, the SXT, the Crossroad, the Crossroad Plus, and the GT. It regularly seats five, but an optional third row adds two more passengers. For 2017, the base SE gets 17-inch steel wheels, heated mirrors, roof rails, dual-zone manual climate control, keyless entry and ignition, a height-adjustable driver seat, cruise control, a sliding and reclining second-row seat, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. The infotainment system comprises of a 4.3-inch touchscreen interface linked to a six-speaker sound system and featuring an auxiliary audio jack and a USB port. The optional Flexible Seating package adds tri-zone manual climate control and a 50/50-split third row. The new cabin is lovely and contemporary with high-quality materials and logically placed buttons and dials. Drivers can also opt for the optional Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment interface at a few more dollars. It is also pleasing that the new Journey has found new places to fit storage compartments, especially the clever cubby holes in the floor. There is also an available integrated child booster and a rear air-conditioner for the third-row seat. The Journey holds 67.6 cubic feet of cargo with all seats lowered, which is good for its class.

The first three trims of the 2017 Dodge Journey - i.e., the SE, the SXT, the Crossroad, and the Crossroad Plus - come with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine returning 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque. Power is conveyed to the front wheels by a four-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel estimates rate this engine at 21 mpg combined (19 city/25 highway). The 2017 Dodge Journey GT is given a 3.6-liter V6 that delivers 283 hp and 260 lb-ft. The V6 is engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission that transmits to either the front or all wheels. The same engine can be fitted to the other trims as a paid-for option, but it is restricted to an all-wheel drivetrain pairing. The FWD GT is ranked at 19 mpg combined (17 city/25 highway), and its AWD version returns 19 mpg combined (16 city/24 highway). The FWD, V6-equipped Journey makes a dash from zero to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, which is average for its class. All 2017 Journey models feature traction and stability control, a driver knee airbag, front side airbag, antilock disc brakes, side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints. Rear parking sensors and a rearview camera are optional safety equipment. An FWD, V6-equipped Dodge Journey stopped from 60 mph in about 124 feet in Edmunds brake testing. The new Dodge Journey was awarded four out of a total of five stars for overall crash protection with five stars for side crash protection and four stars for front-impact crash protection in government crash testing. The IIHS presented it with the top score of Good in side-impact, moderate overlap front-impact, whiplash protection, and roof strength tests.
